Hey there, feline fans! Have you ever found yourself in a bit of a pickle with overdue library books? Well, fear not, because one library in Massachusetts has come up with a purrfect solution – and it involves cats!
Introducing 'Felines for Fee Forgiveness!' – a brilliant initiative by the Worcester Public Library (WPL) as part of their month-long celebration of all things cat-related, aptly named March Meowness.
Here's the scoop: Throughout the month of March, if you happen to misplace or damage a book from the Worcester Public Library, you can simply bring in a photograph, drawing, or magazine picture of a cat, and voila! Your library card gets reactivated, and those pesky fees are forgiven.
But wait, there's more! The WPL is even accepting 'honorary cats' – so whether you're a dog lover, a raccoon enthusiast, or even a fan of capybaras, you're covered. Just bring in a picture or drawing of your favorite furry friend, and you're good to go.
Since launching the scheme, the library has been inundated with returns, with hundreds of items finding their way back home. And to celebrate this furry frenzy, they've created a 'cat wall' where they proudly display all the adorable cat pictures sent in by patrons.
But why cats, you ask? Well, according to WPL Executive Director Jason Homer, the goal was to remove barriers and welcome everyone back into the library fold. With the challenges of the pandemic causing disruptions and misplaced items, the library wanted to offer a simple and inclusive way to get folks back in the reading groove.
Of course, there are a few ground rules to keep in mind. Returned books must be from the Worcester Public Library and have been lost or damaged for at least two months. Plus, if you've had a history of not returning books, the library managers may need to review your cat picture request.
But the fun doesn't stop there! As part of March Meowness, the library is hosting a slew of cat-themed activities, including movie screenings, makeup tutorials, shelter cat play sessions, DIY crafts, and even a scavenger hunt.
So whether you're a bookworm or a cat aficionado (or both!), there's something for everyone to enjoy at the Worcester Public Library this March. And remember, when in doubt, just bring in a picture of your favorite feline friend – because who can resist those whiskers and purrs?
